I've been publishing since 2014. As a teen I loved to read. I read everything from Nancy Drew to The Babysitters Club to Sweet Valley High. Ironically my mom published two books with Harlequin Publishing- Wanton Surrender and Kentucky Fire. They were historical romance. I was still young, so she let me and my sister read them if we wanted, however she blocked off the pages with the steamy parts, lol. Me, being the rule follower that I was, I didn't dare move those papers she had taped over the sex scenes. My friends...well they were a different story!
I used to write short stories at that age. I remember one that starred the hair band TRIXTER, lol. I would sit at her word processor and type away at my story...
My creative mind didn't stop there. I went to school for graphic design. I thought I was artsy wearing my flannels and listening to Nirvana, lol...
As I grew older, I started reading romance novels myself. But once I was working full time reading fell to the wayside. Once I got home that last thing I wanted to do was read. Add in a baby, and my mind was mush by the time work was over and the baby was asleep, lol.
Ironically, getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me. First of all it gave me all day everyday to spend with my son (after missing the first 8 years of his life while working full time). Secondly, the extra time I had while hanging out at the pool, I started to read romance novels again. And that creative spark again ignited. I began writing a story only for myself.
That story morphed into Score On Me (Renegades Series 1).
Putting yourself out there is scary. And it took a while to learn how to find the best editors and to find your author voice.
Here I am 9 years later - 21 books later.
