GETTING HEALTHY FOR FIFTY
1/31/2023 0 Comments cheat daysMost weekends I like to use as my cheat days. This particular one we celebrated my young adult son's birthday. Pizza, cookies and cookie cake, and those turned into leftovers.
My self-care is eating the things that I like, the things that I deprive myself of all week long. It is the only way I can stay on track. I need to/want to learn how to eat what I like AND stay healthy. That's not as easy as it sounds. The one thing I don't change is my water. I still avoid pop. Once I taste that liquid sugar I can't stop drinking it! It's evil, LOL... But I love my water with the Rootbeer flavoring in it. I can't get enough of it! I still try to get 4-6 glasses in a day if possible. And sometimes I can manage more. I learned a long time ago to drink a good bit BEFORE you eat. That way your stomach is partially full and you won't eat as much. I don't know if that is fact, but it works for me. And after going out or eating something salty, my flavored water is all I want! Something I like to do is when we go out, whether it's to run errands or go walk around the mall, I take my water tumbler filled with ice cold rootbeer flavored water with me and keep it in the car. (The tumbler keeps the water cold) I drink in between errands or stops, or just to quench my thirst. Ironically, sometimes eating the foods you've been craving all week isn't all it's cracked up to be. And I crave the healthy foods I've added to my diet. That's when you know you are on the right track. But never beat yourself up over one day of cheating. It is one day, or one meal. Just make up your mind to do better the next meal or the next day. As long as you pick yourself up and get back at it, then you're winning. Maybe your self-care isn't food. Whatever it is, take some time to do it, then get back on track. I know I can do this, but getting there is a journey. It's not going to happen in one day. It is going to take time to get the right mindset to change my lifestyle.

1/24/2023 0 Comments drink all the waterI have always had a hard time drinking plain water. Pop or sweet tea tasted so much better to me. But none of that is good for you - you need to drink water. I tried using a bottle with an infuser and adding fruit to it, but that didn't do it for me either.
I stay far away from Splenda for my own reasons. I've read it's not good for you, BUT the reason I stay away from it is it gives me gastrointestinal issues. No one wants that. So lots of the water enhancers out there are a no-go for me. Finally I found STUR Water enhancer. I liked it for a while, and you might like it just fine. It is sweetened with STEVIA, which is a bonus. But I'm not too keen on fake-ish fruit flavors. My husband however did like it. Luckily I found Amata Water Enhancer Drops Hydration SWEET TEA I like how it makes my water taste like sweet tea (a favorite drink of mine). I alternate that with SweetLeaf Sweet Drops ROOTBEER. They have a SweetLeaf Sweet Drops COLA one too that I like as well. Both are sweetened with Monk Fruit and don't have an aftertaste. It is only with the help of these drops that I can accomplish my 6-8 glasses a day. But to be honest, I am managing 4-5 per day at the moment. I am a work in progress... Any tips to getting more water in? I'm all ears! 1/24/2023 0 Comments happy 2023It took me way too long to get re-motivated to start getting healthy again. I rocked it for about two years before 2020 crushed our souls...
That included not really going out anywhere, avoiding my own full-body reflection, and being lazy. But I can't hide forever. And my goal the whole time was to look and feel better than I ever have by my 50th birthday. I wanted to be THAT 50 year old that folks do a double take at (for a good reason). Let's face it, I'm sure we all wish we could eat like Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls) - well at least I do, lol. Or maybe like they eat on The Middle. Man, as a mom I'd watch that and wish I could plop fast food bags on the table every night instead of cooking. But that's not reality. (even if it looks fun) So here I am, ready to do this. Again. I am the heaviest I have ever been, and not happy about it. For me, there was no better time to start. Using my FitBit App I count calories and try to drink my water. I haven't started exercising or trying to get my steps in yet, but this is only week two. I did start using GOLO though. I'll have to get back to you about if it works or not. But I needed to try something to kick-start this journey. |
