GETTING HEALTHY FOR FIFTY
10/31/2023 0 Comments I'm backI started NOOM 2 weeks ago. I was skeptical at first, but I needed something to get me motivated again.
I really like it! If you read my blog on Lymphedema, you know I suffer from LE. It is in my right leg and foot. I have no idea how many pounds of fluid is sitting in my calf, but it is obvious it isn't a small amount. And it fluctuates depending on if I do my therapy and compression wraps for the day, and what I have eaten. Certain foods cause more swelling than others. On NOOM they tell you to weigh in daily. On my own I was weighing once a week. I have no fear of the scale, I always enjoyed weighing in to see if I lost any weight. Well, I've realized my LE makes the scale useless. I am still weighing in, as it is part of the plan, but I'm not focusing on it. I love the learning that is happening. I haven't felt this way since I was on Burton Nutrition back in 2018. It's only been 2 weeks, so I am not focusing on if I lost anything yet (I lost 2lbs) but I am just trying to learn and change. I am pretty sure it is working. I have added fruits and vegetables to my day, and I can honestly say when 2020 hit, we abruptly stopped adding veggies to dinner, or using them as snacks. That bad habit only grew. I'm struggling with water intake, but working hard on increasing my steps. I am now trying to learn HOW and what to eat. Just like when on Burton Nutrition, NOOM teaches you how to eat normally but the right way. One quote from a lesson I recently read that stuck with me said that a chocolate chip cookie isn't "Bad" or "ruins your diet" a chocolate chip cookie is just a cookie! Can you believe I chose THIS time of year to do this? LOL. Tonight is Halloween and I was passing out candy. I bought Twix because I wanted to eat some. Yep. So as the night started, I grabbed one Twix for myself. (a little snack size one) I ate a late lunch, so wasn't hungry for dinner. I tore into that long desired Twix before the kids started showing up. To my surprise, it wasn't what I was expecting. I am not sure why. But it immediately turned me off and I have no craving for the rest of the leftovers (that I set aside). This is a new development. I am trying. Change doesn't happen all at one time. My downhill struggle has been forming for 3 years. I am not going to overcome all of those struggles in one week. But I am learning new things every day and I feel that is a step in the right direction. I'll keep you posted...
